Port Huron Hospital Signs Letter of Intent to Join McLaren Health Care

Port Huron Hospital EntranceBlue Water Health Services (BWHS), the parent of Port Huron Hospital (PHH), an independent 501(c)3 hospital in Port Huron, MI, has signed a letter of intent to join McLaren Health Care, an integrated nonprofit system based in Flint, MI. The decision was unanimously supported by PHH’s Board of Trustees. McLaren will commit to service growth, facility and equipment improvements, employee and physician commitments, and will provide for significant local board decision-making. PHH will become McLaren’s 12th member hospital and will benefit from the system’s commitment to high-quality, accessible healthcare for the Port Huron community, Blue Water, and Thumb areas of Michigan.

Juniper’s Role
The Board engaged Juniper Advisory to proactively assess their strategic options, as well as to implement a competitive process to evaluate transaction alternatives. Juniper designed and managed a marketing process that included identifying and qualifying potential suitors, drafting information materials, guiding suitors through the proposal process, conducting reverse due diligence, and negotiating the letter of intent. Juniper will continue to advise the Board through the due diligence process and negotiation of the definitive agreement.

Port Huron Hospital
Port Huron Hospital is a 186-bed acute-care hospital located in the city of Port Huron, MI at the base of Lake Huron. PHH is a subsidiary of Blue Water Health Services Corporation, which also owns and operates Marwood Nursing & Rehab, a 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility. PHH provides a spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services to the residents of St. Clair and Sanilac counties and has been repeatedly recognized for clinical excellence and patient safety by nationally renowned organizations known for their measurements of hospitals and healthcare systems. PHH is the largest employer in the city of Port Huron with over 1,400 employees.

McLaren Health Care
