Rex Burgdorfer and Jordan Shields Deliver Keynote at Western Regional Trustee Symposium

WRTS CoverRex Burgdorfer and Jordan Shields delivered their keynote address titled “Considering the Role of Industry Structure” for the Western Regional Trustee Symposium, a gathering of hospital board members and executive leadership teams from a collection of 10 western state hospital associations. The keynote provided an overview of the heavily fragmented hospital industry and the ways in which the Affordable Care Act and its associated regulatory requirements and cost pressures are driving the hospital merger market. Rex and Jordan also considered the unique governance construct of independent nonprofit hospitals and the ways in which boards are confronting the rapidly changing industry structure.

The Western Regional Trustee Symposium (WRTS) offers a venue for hospital board members to learn about the latest in current health care trends and provides practical solutions to confront the challenges faced in today’s shifting healthcare landscape. The WRTS is a collaboration of the hospital associations from Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
