Sharp HealthCare and Tri-City Healthcare District Complete Strategic Partnership
Transaction Announcement
With an overwhelming 92% voter approval, Sharp HealthCare (Sharp) and Tri-City Healthcare District (Tri-City) have finalized their strategic partnership, with Sharp assuming operational responsibility for Tri-City Medical Center under a 30-year lease agreement. Effective July 1, the hospital will operate as Sharp Tri-City Medical Center, marking a significant step toward strengthening and expanding healthcare services for North County San Diego.
As part of the transaction, Sharp has committed to investing at least $100 million to modernize facilities, upgrade technology, enhance the patient experience, and expand access to specialized services. Planned investments include implementation of Sharp’s electronic health record and business systems, the return of labor and delivery services, expansion of cancer care, and continued evaluation of additional clinical specialties and physician access throughout the region.

Building on Sharp’s longstanding regional model with Grossmont Healthcare District, this partnership preserves Tri-City’s role as a community hospital while positioning the organization for long-term sustainability, expanded clinical capabilities, and enhanced access to integrated care across San Diego County.
The combination reflects a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, improving patient access, and ensuring North County residents have access to high-quality, comprehensive care close to home for generations to come.

The Tri-City Healthcare District Board engaged Juniper Advisory as its transaction advisor to conduct a comprehensive, nationwide evaluation of strategic alternatives. Juniper supported the District through a structured, community-focused process designed to identify a partner aligned with Tri-City’s mission, long-term sustainability objectives, and commitment to local access and transparency. Juniper’s role included designing and managing the strategic partner evaluation process, preparing information and diligence materials, soliciting and evaluating prospective partners, advising the Board throughout its evaluation of strategic alternatives, and supporting negotiations through closing.
