Mid-Columbia Medical Center Joins Adventist Health

Transaction Announcement

Mid-Columbia Medical Center (MCMC) located in The Dalles, OR has joined Adventist Health headquartered in Roseville, CA. MCMC sits in the Columbia River Gorge market, ~85 miles east of Portland. This is the first hospital transaction approved by the Oregon Health Authority’s new Healthcare Market Oversight program.

MCMC initiated a process to assess strategic alternatives in early 2022 and selected Adventist as the partner of choice in late 2022. As part of the transaction, Adventist has committed to invest over $100 million of capital over ten years, assume responsibility for MCMC’s financial obligations, preserve services, enhance physician recruiting and retention efforts, and implement integrated information technology systems. With these investments, MCMC solidifies its role as a leading medical and economic engine of the region.

Juniper’s Role

The Board of MCMC engaged Juniper Advisory to proactively assess its strategic alternatives and to implement a competitive process to evaluate a range of structural options. Juniper designed and managed a comprehensive market-clearing process, drafted information materials, assembled an electronic data room, conducted reverse due diligence, and negotiated the agreement between the parties. Juniper assisted to navigate the simultaneous dissolution of an affiliation with Oregon Health & Science University and rigorous, untested regulatory review.
